THE FIVE BENEFITS OF GROUND NUTS........
Groundnuts, also known as peanuts, are considered a very healthy snack. Although small in size it plays a vital nutritional role and contains amazing health benefits.
The health benefits includes:
Helps Promote Fertility (Folate) Peanuts contain a good amount of folate. Repeated studies have shown that women who had a daily intake of 400 micrograms of folic acid before and during early pregnancy reduced their risk of having a baby born with a serious neural tube defect by up to 70%.Helps Fight Depression (Tryptophan) Peanuts are good sources of tryptophan, an essential amino acid which is important for the production of serotonin, one of the key brain chemicals involved in mood regulation. When depression occurs, a decreased amount of serotonin may be released from the nerve cells in the brain. Tryptophan may raise serotonin’s antidepressant effects when there is an increased amount of serotonin in the blood. Boosts Memory Power (Vitamin B3) Do you know what can be found in peanuts that gave them the “brain food” tag? This is due to their vitamin B3 or niacin content whose many health benefits include normal brain functioning and boosting memory power.Aids in Blood Sugar Regulation (Manganese) One fourth cup of peanuts can supply the body with 35% of the DV of manganese, a mineral which plays a role in fat and carbohydrate metabolism, calcium absorption, and blood sugar regulation. Cancer Protection A form of phytosterol called beta-sitoserol (SIT) is found in high concentrations in some plant oils, seeds, and legumes including peanuts. Phytosterols not only protects against cardiovascular disease by interfering with the absorption of cholesterol, they also protect against cancer by inhibiting tumor growth.

Analysis of consumption and production trends of Fruits and Vegetables (2017 - 2022) in South Africa

Analysis of consumption and production trends of Fruits and Vegetables (2017 - 2022) in South Africa

 by KOMBA BRIGIDA BAPRM 47531

Zimbabwe in February 2015, banned all imports of fruits and vegetables, which will effect neighbouring South Africa Exports. Ban will mostly impact supplies of tomato, mango, grapes, potato and apples which is mostly imported from South Africa. Local production is slumped by 60% from 2000, following seizures of white-owned farms by current controversial government.
Fruits and vegetables in Zimbabwe are classified under the horticulture sector, which encompasses cut flowers, fruit & vegetables (both processed and fresh). This sector has been the fastest growing industry with an average growth of 32% over the last ten years. It is largely represented by the Horticultural Promotion Council (HPC).
The industry includes such players as the input suppliers, farmers (large & small scale commercial farmers), fresh fruit & vegetable wholesalers, exporters and processors. The main producers of fresh fruit and vegetables for export are commercial farmers (large scale and small scale). The communal farmers grow mainly for the local market, although recently there has been a shift towards exports, mainly to the region. These farmers also participate in export trade by supplying the larger companies with their produce on an out grower basis.
The fruit and vegetable industry is conceivably the best example of a ‘buyers’ market’. Productivity and efficiency gains are essential to remain competitive, then eventually it is market conditions that regulate the underlying profitability of business in Zimbabwe fruit and veg industry. Market judgment is vital, and producers, distributors and retailers must each adopt a strategy according to their top-down assessment of the market. By keeping this in mind, a comprehensive understanding of economic conditions and sub-market drivers is essential.
thus it is an opportunity for Lucky vegits to grab and take advantage. since we are an upcoming company recently opening a branch in Cape Town South Africa.

IMPORTANCE OF BEETS

As a company dealing with fruits and vegetable we advise our customers to use beet greens because it is good and it contain an abundance of chlorophyll, vitamin A and C. It also has a high mineral content, being especially rich in calcium and potassium. Also beets contain fiber, vitamins C and K. Not only that but also it rich in folate, which we all know as folic acid, a natural substance which aids in preventing certain birth defects and heart disease.
The betaine in beet juice stimulates the function of the liver cells and protects the liver and bile ducts.
Beets are an excellent way to detoxify and renew the blood with minerals and natural sugars. This also it helps the reconstitute of the blood, bringing important sustenance to the brain, heart, lungs, liver and kidneys. For all the women out there, did you know that beet juice helps alleviate menstrual disturbances and menopausal symptoms? There is more. It’s a powerful kidney and blood cleanser. So stop worrying about its sugar content, its natural sugars.

Enterprise budget format.
Lucky vegetables and fruits is here by to tell about the budget format in the organization.
Enterprise budget format varies, some are complex and others are quite simple. The budget are divided into five sections.
Firstly it illustrate the total receipts the enterprise provides on a set unit. Record should be kept on both a sales unit and land unit.
Secondly it includes the costs of planting and growing the product.
Thirdly it includes the harvest component such as the packaging cost in harvesting activity.
Fourthly it relates to ownership cost whereby each producer owns or controls assets that they use to produce income such ad land, machinery and the irrigation equipment's.
lastly it includes the summary of returns whereby the total cost would be variable and ownership costs combined.

THE DIFFERENT KINDS OF CORNS....
You may think all corn is the same, but it’s not.  There are 4 basic types of corn and they all have distinguishing traits and uses.  You can’t pop sweet corn and you wouldn’t want to eat boiled field corn.  The average person may not be able to tell the difference between the various types of corn by looking at them growing in the field, but a grower certainly can.
Dent Corn
Dent corn, also called field corn, is the most widely grown corn in the U.S.  It is used primarily for livestock feed, but it is also used in some food products. It contains a mix of hard and soft starches that become indented once the corn is dried, thus the name “dent” corn.
Flint Corn
Flint corn, also known as Indian corn, is similar to dent corn.  It has a hard outer shell and is distinguished by a wide range of colors.  It is grown mostly in Central and South America and used primarily for decoration in North America around harvest time.
Popcorn
Popcorn is a type of flint corn but has its own size, shape, starch level and moisture content.  It has a hard exterior shell and a soft starchy center.  When heated, the natural moisture inside the kernel turns to steam and builds up enough pressure that it eventually explodes.  Other types of dried corn may burst open slightly when heated, but not like popcorn.  Popcorn is unique in its taste and pop ability.
Sweet Corn
Sweet corn, or “corn on the cob,” is almost all soft starch and will never pop.  It contains more sugar than other types of corn.  Unlike other corns that are picked when the kernels are dry and mature, sweet corn is picked and eaten while the ears are in the immature milk stage and the kernels are tender.

WHY IT IS IMPORTANT CHILDREN GETS THE DAILY RECOMMENDED SERVINGS OF VEGETABLES AND FRUITS?

Fruits and vegetables are high in vitamins, mineral as and fibre. Kids should be encouraged to eat a variety of fruits and vegetables-there is a rainbow of colors to choose from-which provides a rich source of antioxidants, instead of sugary snacks and fast food, which are high in fat and sugar. The vitamins, minerals, fibre and antioxidants found in fruits and vegetables provides the following benefits

  • To ensure the child’s healthy growth and development
  • Strengthen a child’s immune system and help fight illness. There is strong evidence to show that the nutrients found in fruits and vegetables can prevent chronic disease such as cardiovascular diseases.
  • The high-fibre content can aid in the proper function of the digestive system and prevent constipation.
  • Promote good health and protect against disease, both now and in the future.

Therefore as a Public Relations Officer at Lucky Fruits and Vegetables Company Ltd collaborated with Health Officer we would like to insist parents to take responsibility to make sure that their children eat fruits and vegetables daily so as attain better health.

TRADITIONAL AND MEDICAL USES OF BANANA.

Fruits and Vegetables are an important component of a health diet. Some fruits like Banana offers great medical benefits. This is partly because Bananas aid in the body's retention of calcium, nitrogen and phosphorus. All of which work to build health and regenerated tissue. The benefits of using Banana is to fight intestinal disorders like ulcers. Bananas are one of the few fruits that ulcers patients can safety consume.

Banana neutralize the acidity of gastric juices, thereby reducing ulcers irritation by coating the lining of the stomach. This fruit is also used as treatment for burns and wounds. For the immediate pain relief beat a ripe Banana into a paste and spread it over a burn or wound lastly Bananas leaves can be also used as a cool compress for burns or wounds.

The Market Opportunity of Vegetables for Tanzania in the Fair Trade Sector

The Market Opportunity of vegetables for Tanzania in the Fair Trade Sector
 By KOMBA BRIGIDA BAPRM 47531

The Market Opportunity for Tanzania in the Fair Trade Sector Despite the constraints that go with this market sector, the fair trade label does add significant value for producers. If the market develops significantly for vegetables in the coming years, new opportunities may begin to emerge. Fair trade-certified vegetables appear to offer one of the most promising initial routes to market for Tanzanian producers. Mangetouts would be especially promising, because African producers are very competitive in them and they still fetch a premium, unlike fine beans, for example. It is recommended that the sector start to explore opportunities with key fair trade organizations (certifiers like the Fairtrade Foundation in the U.K., importers like AgroFair in the Netherlands, NGOs, and so on). Unlike in most other areas, Kenya’s lead here is relatively small. In this context, it should be pointed out that fair trade organizations evaluate, assist, and certify existing operations; they do not assist in establishing them. However, this would necessarily be a niche market, as the market for fair trade produce across Europe is still relatively small—not growing as fast as that for organics, for example, and not currently focused on vegetables—though this could change, of course. Sales of fair trade products are often heavily concentrated in certain periods of the year, such as the “Fairtrade Fortnight” held in the U.K. in early March. Over this time, fair trade issues are given a high degree of prominence by the media—and, increasingly, by major retailers. One of the key marketing challenges for the fair trade-based sector is to keep sales levels high for most of the rest of the year and not just during periods of special attention. The future for fair trade products lies largely in the prosperity of end markets across the EU. The general feeling in the market is that many people still buy fair trade items not due to a deep understanding (and subsequent rejection) of modern, intensive, high-tech international agrifood supply chains and trade conditions, but rather to make themselves “feel good” and, to some extent, to follow fashion. If economic prosperity dips in Europe, many in the industry believe that expensive products (such as fair trade) will be the first to leave people’s shopping baskets.

Eat more vegetables and fruits each day

1. Keep fruit where you can see it. That way you’ll be more likely to eat it.
2. Explore the produce aisle and choose something new. Variety is the key to a healthy diet.
3. Skip the potatoes. Choose other vegetables that are packed with more nutrients and more slowly digested carbohydrates.
4. Make it a meal. Try cooking new recipes that include more vegetables. Salads and stir fries are two ideas for getting tasty vegetables on your plate.
this are simple tricks to making sure that fruits and vegetables are part of your daily meal.

SIMPLE RULES FOR STORING FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
When you've returned home after selecting the season's finest bounty there's no point keeping it in sub-optimal conditions only to throw it into a fridge-clearing soup or even worse, the bin. Follow a few simple rules, keep that produce in tip-top condition and enjoy crispy carrots and springy silver beet all week.
Always store fruit and vegetables separately, Fruit emits much more ethylene than vegetables and vegetables are much more sensitive to ethylene than fruit, so, always store fruit and vegetables in separate drawers. Otherwise you'll understand why they say one bad apple will spoil the whole barrel. Divide all fruit and vegetable into those that like the cold and those that don't.
Fruit
Out of the fridge: If a fruit grew in the tropics then you can happily assume it won't like the cold. Bananas, pineapples, mangoes, melons, lychees, pomegranates, coconuts, mangos teen, guava and papaya prefer the fruit bowl. Watermelon, however, prefers to be alone; it's highly sensitive to ethylene and will deteriorate much faster in company. Grapes are similarly sensitive.
In the fridge: Fruits which prefer the cold or will last a decent time if kept in the fridge include apples, pears, berries, grapes and oranges. Strangely, although you can freeze every other variety of orange, if you freeze a navel orange it will turn bitter. Stone fruits are a particular lot and if you refrigerate them before they are ripe they will turn mealy and lose flavour. However, once they are ripe you can keep them in the crisper for a couple of days. Just remember to always bring fruit to room temperature for eating so you get the best flavour.

Vegetables

Out of the fridge: Potatoes store best in dirt, it's a natural preservative, instead of digging storage mounds outside like it's the olden days just be happy to buy unwashed potatoes and store them dirty somewhere very dark.  Onions like somewhere dark with good air circulation, whole pumpkins and sweet potatoes are also best stored this way.
In the fridge: All the hardy greens like silver beet and kale like a bit of humidity to keep them fresh and love to be wrapped in a damp cloth in the crisper. Delicate greens like go through the roof, however, will turn to mush at the first sign of water, make sure these ones are stored wrapped in a dry cloth in the fridge. Although root vegetable look pretty with their green leaves make sure you remove the tops, otherwise the leaves will continue to grow causing the root to soften and lose flavor

         CUCUMBERS
Cucumbers are scientifically known as Cucumis sativus and belong to the same botanical family as melons (including watermelon and cantaloupe) and squashes (including summer squash, winter squash, zucchini and pumpkin). Commercial production of cucumbers is usually divided into two types. "Slicing cucumbers" are produced for fresh consumption. "Pickling cucumbers" are produced for eventual processing into pickles. Slicing cucumbers are usually larger and have thicker skins, while pickling cucumbers are usually smaller and have thinner skins.
What's New and Beneficial About Cucumbers
Researchers have long been familiar with the presence of unique polyphenols in plants called lignans, and these health-benefiting substances have been studied extensively in cruciferous vegetables (like broccoli or cabbage) and allium vegetables (like onion or garlic). Recent studies, however, have begun to pay more attention to the lignan content of other vegetables, including cucumbers. Cucumbers are now known to contain lariciresinol, pinoresinol, and secoisolariciresinol—three lignans that have a strong history of research in connection with reduced risk of cardiovascular disease as well as several cancer types, including breast, uterine, ovarian, and prostate cancers.Fresh extracts from cucumbers have recently been show to have both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. While research in this area must still be considered preliminary—since it's only been conducted on animals in a lab setting—the findings are clear and consistent. Substances in fresh cucumber extracts help scavenge free radicals, help improve antioxidant status, inhibit the activity of pro-inflammatory enzymes like cyclo-oxygenase 2 (COX-2), and prevent overproduction of nitric oxide in situations where it could pose health risks. It's highly likely that cucumber phytonutrients play a key role in providing these antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, supporting health alongside of the conventional antioxidant nutrients—including vitamin C, beta-carotene, and manganese—of which cucumbers are an important source. As a member of the Cucurbitaceae family of plants, cucumbers are a rich source of triterpene phytonutrients called cucurbitacins. Cucurbitacins A, B, C, D and E are all contained in fresh cucumber. They have been the subject of active and ongoing research to determine the extent and nature of their anti-cancer properties. Scientists have already determined that several different signaling pathways (for example, the JAK-STAT and MAPK pathways) required for cancer cell development and survival can be blocked by activity of cucurbitacins. We expect to see human studies that confirm the anti-cancer benefits of cucumbers in the everyday diet.
