TRADITIONAL AND MEDICAL USES OF BANANA.

Fruits and Vegetables are an important component of a health diet. Some fruits like Banana offers great medical benefits. This is partly because Bananas aid in the body's retention of calcium, nitrogen and phosphorus. All of which work to build health and regenerated tissue. The benefits of using Banana is to fight intestinal disorders like ulcers. Bananas are one of the few fruits that ulcers patients can safety consume.

Banana neutralize the acidity of gastric juices, thereby reducing ulcers irritation by coating the lining of the stomach. This fruit is also used as treatment for burns and wounds. For the immediate pain relief beat a ripe Banana into a paste and spread it over a burn or wound lastly Bananas leaves can be also used as a cool compress for burns or wounds.

The Market Opportunity of Vegetables for Tanzania in the Fair Trade Sector

The Market Opportunity of vegetables for Tanzania in the Fair Trade Sector
 By KOMBA BRIGIDA BAPRM 47531

The Market Opportunity for Tanzania in the Fair Trade Sector Despite the constraints that go with this market sector, the fair trade label does add significant value for producers. If the market develops significantly for vegetables in the coming years, new opportunities may begin to emerge. Fair trade-certified vegetables appear to offer one of the most promising initial routes to market for Tanzanian producers. Mangetouts would be especially promising, because African producers are very competitive in them and they still fetch a premium, unlike fine beans, for example. It is recommended that the sector start to explore opportunities with key fair trade organizations (certifiers like the Fairtrade Foundation in the U.K., importers like AgroFair in the Netherlands, NGOs, and so on). Unlike in most other areas, Kenya’s lead here is relatively small. In this context, it should be pointed out that fair trade organizations evaluate, assist, and certify existing operations; they do not assist in establishing them. However, this would necessarily be a niche market, as the market for fair trade produce across Europe is still relatively small—not growing as fast as that for organics, for example, and not currently focused on vegetables—though this could change, of course. Sales of fair trade products are often heavily concentrated in certain periods of the year, such as the “Fairtrade Fortnight” held in the U.K. in early March. Over this time, fair trade issues are given a high degree of prominence by the media—and, increasingly, by major retailers. One of the key marketing challenges for the fair trade-based sector is to keep sales levels high for most of the rest of the year and not just during periods of special attention. The future for fair trade products lies largely in the prosperity of end markets across the EU. The general feeling in the market is that many people still buy fair trade items not due to a deep understanding (and subsequent rejection) of modern, intensive, high-tech international agrifood supply chains and trade conditions, but rather to make themselves “feel good” and, to some extent, to follow fashion. If economic prosperity dips in Europe, many in the industry believe that expensive products (such as fair trade) will be the first to leave people’s shopping baskets.

Eat more vegetables and fruits each day

1. Keep fruit where you can see it. That way you’ll be more likely to eat it.
2. Explore the produce aisle and choose something new. Variety is the key to a healthy diet.
3. Skip the potatoes. Choose other vegetables that are packed with more nutrients and more slowly digested carbohydrates.
4. Make it a meal. Try cooking new recipes that include more vegetables. Salads and stir fries are two ideas for getting tasty vegetables on your plate.
this are simple tricks to making sure that fruits and vegetables are part of your daily meal.

SIMPLE RULES FOR STORING FRUITS AND VEGETABLES
When you've returned home after selecting the season's finest bounty there's no point keeping it in sub-optimal conditions only to throw it into a fridge-clearing soup or even worse, the bin. Follow a few simple rules, keep that produce in tip-top condition and enjoy crispy carrots and springy silver beet all week.
Always store fruit and vegetables separately, Fruit emits much more ethylene than vegetables and vegetables are much more sensitive to ethylene than fruit, so, always store fruit and vegetables in separate drawers. Otherwise you'll understand why they say one bad apple will spoil the whole barrel. Divide all fruit and vegetable into those that like the cold and those that don't.
Fruit
Out of the fridge: If a fruit grew in the tropics then you can happily assume it won't like the cold. Bananas, pineapples, mangoes, melons, lychees, pomegranates, coconuts, mangos teen, guava and papaya prefer the fruit bowl. Watermelon, however, prefers to be alone; it's highly sensitive to ethylene and will deteriorate much faster in company. Grapes are similarly sensitive.
In the fridge: Fruits which prefer the cold or will last a decent time if kept in the fridge include apples, pears, berries, grapes and oranges. Strangely, although you can freeze every other variety of orange, if you freeze a navel orange it will turn bitter. Stone fruits are a particular lot and if you refrigerate them before they are ripe they will turn mealy and lose flavour. However, once they are ripe you can keep them in the crisper for a couple of days. Just remember to always bring fruit to room temperature for eating so you get the best flavour.

Vegetables

Out of the fridge: Potatoes store best in dirt, it's a natural preservative, instead of digging storage mounds outside like it's the olden days just be happy to buy unwashed potatoes and store them dirty somewhere very dark.  Onions like somewhere dark with good air circulation, whole pumpkins and sweet potatoes are also best stored this way.
In the fridge: All the hardy greens like silver beet and kale like a bit of humidity to keep them fresh and love to be wrapped in a damp cloth in the crisper. Delicate greens like go through the roof, however, will turn to mush at the first sign of water, make sure these ones are stored wrapped in a dry cloth in the fridge. Although root vegetable look pretty with their green leaves make sure you remove the tops, otherwise the leaves will continue to grow causing the root to soften and lose flavor

         CUCUMBERS
Cucumbers are scientifically known as Cucumis sativus and belong to the same botanical family as melons (including watermelon and cantaloupe) and squashes (including summer squash, winter squash, zucchini and pumpkin). Commercial production of cucumbers is usually divided into two types. "Slicing cucumbers" are produced for fresh consumption. "Pickling cucumbers" are produced for eventual processing into pickles. Slicing cucumbers are usually larger and have thicker skins, while pickling cucumbers are usually smaller and have thinner skins.
What's New and Beneficial About Cucumbers
Researchers have long been familiar with the presence of unique polyphenols in plants called lignans, and these health-benefiting substances have been studied extensively in cruciferous vegetables (like broccoli or cabbage) and allium vegetables (like onion or garlic). Recent studies, however, have begun to pay more attention to the lignan content of other vegetables, including cucumbers. Cucumbers are now known to contain lariciresinol, pinoresinol, and secoisolariciresinol—three lignans that have a strong history of research in connection with reduced risk of cardiovascular disease as well as several cancer types, including breast, uterine, ovarian, and prostate cancers.Fresh extracts from cucumbers have recently been show to have both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. While research in this area must still be considered preliminary—since it's only been conducted on animals in a lab setting—the findings are clear and consistent. Substances in fresh cucumber extracts help scavenge free radicals, help improve antioxidant status, inhibit the activity of pro-inflammatory enzymes like cyclo-oxygenase 2 (COX-2), and prevent overproduction of nitric oxide in situations where it could pose health risks. It's highly likely that cucumber phytonutrients play a key role in providing these antioxidant and anti-inflammatory benefits, supporting health alongside of the conventional antioxidant nutrients—including vitamin C, beta-carotene, and manganese—of which cucumbers are an important source. As a member of the Cucurbitaceae family of plants, cucumbers are a rich source of triterpene phytonutrients called cucurbitacins. Cucurbitacins A, B, C, D and E are all contained in fresh cucumber. They have been the subject of active and ongoing research to determine the extent and nature of their anti-cancer properties. Scientists have already determined that several different signaling pathways (for example, the JAK-STAT and MAPK pathways) required for cancer cell development and survival can be blocked by activity of cucurbitacins. We expect to see human studies that confirm the anti-cancer benefits of cucumbers in the everyday diet.

The Best of Apples and Peas!

Apples
Apples may trail behind pears in this category, but they're still a good way to sneak more fiber into your day—as long as you don't peel them! One medium apple contains around 4.4 grams of the belly-friendly nutrient and can help ward off junk food cravings between meals.

Peas
One medium pear contains around 5.5 grams of fiber, but in order to get all those grams you need to keep the skin intact because that's where most of the nutrient is concentrated. This same rule applies to apples, potatoes, and even that white stuff you love to pick off of oranges after you've peeled the outer layer off!

Most of fruit skins are very important in our bodies. we need to learn to eat them without peeling for provision of enough fiber into our bodies.

Analysis of consumption and production trends of Fruits and Vegetables in Tanzania (2017 - 2022)

BY KOMBA BRIGIDA BAPRM 47531

Production of tomatoes is the highest with a total of 159,805 tons production and acreage of 7,170 hectare. The second vegetable crop is cabbage and third crop is onion. Carrots are a minor crop with a production of 4,029 tons. Other vegetables are for instance eggplant, cauliflower, beans and indigenous vegetables like amaranth and okra. Of the horticultural regions, Iringa shows the highest production and acreage. Also yield levels in this region are high compared to the other regions. For home consumption only 10% of the yield is used.
The remaining is for selling but for all kind of vegetables losses are high. Although no good documentation is available estimated is that about 31% is lost leaving only 59% for selling. Losses are caused by pest and diseases, inadequate sorting/grading, rough handling, lack of cooled storage facilities and lack of adequate packing material. Besides this also a good quality control system and grading system is lacking. Only 13% of the farmers perform some sort of grading where only rotten or misshaped fruits are removed.
Mango is one of the common fruits in Asia, Central and South America and Africa. In Tanzania mango is on the list of five top most popular fruits, i.e., bananas, oranges, pineapples, mangos and pear. There are number of products made from mango, such as juice, pulp, pickles, mango flavouring, mango kernel oil, and powder. These products have been well introduced and accepted in a variety of market segments around the world.
In Tanzania and Africa in general, processing of mango is less developed than in other continents, and the varieties grown are generally most suitable for local markets. Processed mango products, e.g., dried fruit, jam, jellies, syrup and other mango products are fast gaining market share and commanding better prices than other tropical fruits. Access to the EU and USA market is subject to stringent standards and certification requirements (GLOBAL GAP, HACCP and other Ethical Trading Initiatives (ETI)), which makes export of mango from some countries, including Tanzania, not possible at this time.

As the information officer of lucky fruits and vegetables company have to inform you all that we have new products to introduce to our customers with the affordable place that to ensure any one can be able to buy and enjoy the products with their lovers this is because we understand the economic income that each one of us going through. Our aim is to make people aware of our products and interact with people surrounding our company and have the direct impact to our organization. PREPARATION AND COOKING OF FRUIT AND VEGETABLES

PREPARED BY SHAYO PASCAL J (BAPRM 47634)

Vegetables are often cooked, although some kinds are eaten raw, but some of nutrients and protein can be damage during the processing and cooking

Lucky Fruits and vegetable Suggests the following way in which you can get the best out of your fruit and vegetables include:

  • Eat raw vegetables and fruits if possible.
  • Try fruit or vegetables purée into smoothies.
  • Use a sharp knife to cut fresh fruits to avoid bruising.
  • Cut off only the uneatable parts of vegetables – sometimes the best nutrients are found in the skin, just below the skin or in the leaves.
  • Use cook, grill, microwave, bake or steam methods with non-stick cookware and mono-unsaturated oils.
  • Do not overcook, to reduce nutrient loss.
  • Serve meals with vegetable pests, salsas, chutneys and vinegars in place of sour cream, butter and creamy sauces.

Some nutrients may actually be increased if food is cooked. For example, tomato has more carotenoids, especially lycopene, when it is cooked is a good reason to prepare fruits and vegetable. Once you have prepared and cooked your vegetables and fruit, spend some time on presentation. People are more likely to enjoy a meal if it’s full of variety and visually appealing, as well as tasty. Sit at the table to eat and enjoy your food without distractions like television.

Mushrooms Effects
The mushroom effect is described as a "trip" because it is a long (4-6 hours) and powerful experience which takes you beyond normal perception and then back again. The active ingredient that causes this effect is called psilocybin. The mushrooms can be eaten raw or used to make tea.
At low doses, mushrooms induce a tingling body feeling and sense of euphoria and lightness. You may feel happy and giggly. Colors seem more vibrant, music sounds richer.
Simply put, it alters and expands consciousness by loosening or -- at higher doses- completely erasing the normal filters and screens between your conscious mind and the outside world.
With these filters down, more information rushes in and you become aware of things normally filtered out by your mind. You sense more, think more, feel more -- visual, auditory, sensory, emotional -- the intricate details on surfaces, the richness of sound, the brightness of colors, and the complexity of your own mental processes.

THE SIX IMPORTANCE OF CABBAGE.....
When planning a meal, cabbage may not be the first thing that comes to mind. It’s not the sexiest vegetable out there, but it is packed with nutrients and fiber, and you would be surprised what you can do with this cruciferous, leafy powerhouse.
1. Cabbage is anything but boring
Cabbage comes in many varieties, including green, purple, and white. The brightly colored purple cabbage is not only beautiful, but contains anthocyanins, which have been proven to have anti-carcinogenic properties… meaning, it helps your body fight off cancer. My favorite way to use purple cabbage: Fish Tacos. I slice the cabbage paper thin, and add it on top of corn tortillas with a dollop of my secret ingredient: well-made ranch dressing. Layer on some baked mahi mahi, finely chopped sweet onions, shredded purple cabbage, chopped tomatoes, and crown it with some avocado. De-lish!
2. Cabbage is great for your waistline
Cabbage is very low in saturated fat and cholesterol, and is a good source of fiber. Are you trying to maintain a healthy weight? Try adding cabbage into a mixed green salad. It will help fill you up, keep you regular, and fits into the zero-calorie group. I love to make a salad of shredded Napa cabbage, which has a sweet, crunchy celery flavor. Add a spoonful of rice wine vinegar, a few drops of sesame oil, some toasted sesame seeds, and a handful of edamame. Yum!
3.Cabbage is a good source of folates.
Folate is one of the essential components of DNA. Are you listening pregnant moms? Not only will adding cabbage to your diet help protect your baby from birth defects, but it will satisfy your rumbling tummy without adding unnecessary calories. Try chopping up some bok choy and stir-frying with other colorful veggies such as carrots, mushrooms, sugar snaps, and garlic. This is my family’s favorite way to use up the produce from our Full Circle delivery before the next one arrives! Paired with some quinoa, you will enjoy a high protein, high nutrient, low calorie meal that’s good for you and for baby too!
4. Cabbage can help keep your bones and body healthy
Cabbage is a good source of vitamin C and vitamin K. Vitamin C helps the body develop resistance against infectious agents and scavenging, harmful, pro-inflammatory free radicals. Enough vitamin K in the diet makes your bone stronger, healthier and delays osteoporosis.
5. Eating cabbage is like taking a multi-vitamin
While taking a multi-vitamin daily is a good idea, adding cabbage to your diet just bolsters the good work your vitamin of choice is doing for your health. Like other green vegetables, it is good source of many essential vitamins such as riboflavin, pantothenic acid, and thiamin. Replenish.
In addition, it is very natural source of electrolytes and minerals like calcium, potassium, phosphorous, manganese, iron and magnesium, which can help control heart rate and blood pressure. Iron is required for red blood cell formation and is an important mineral for expecting mothers as it helps in avoiding anemia.
.6 Cabbage is in season!!
Cabbage is a cool season annual vegetable. It’s hardy, so it can withstand the surprisingly cool nights that creep in this time of year in the northwest, and you’ll often see cabbage as an option in your Full Circle delivery.
Let us know your favorite way to prepare cabbage by leaving a comment below, and enjoy the coming Autumn season!

FRESH FRUITS AND ORGANIC VEGETABLES FOR A HEALTHY LIFE
PREPARED BY
 SHAYO PASCAL J (BAPRM 47634)
A healthy diet is incomplete if you do not include fruits and vegetables in it. They provide our body with essential nutrients that boosts our immunity and protects us against chronic diseases. Fruits and vegetables are rich in minerals, vitamins, antioxidants and fiber, they are also low on calories, which is perfect for your waistline. They make any dish delicious with their vibrant colors, appetizing fragrances and fresh flavors. Juices, smoothies and salads are ideal diet choices for sick people and pregnant women too.
However, in our daily confused schedule of demanding working hours and grueling traffic snarls we don't find any time to go out grocery shopping. This results in consumption of unhealthy and greasy foods that is detrimental to our health. When our body is deprived of healthy foods our immunity weakens and this leads to we becoming susceptible to dangerous diseases. We sell all kind of fresh vegetables ranging from organic to exotic veggies such as kale, broccoli, celery, avocado, potato, parsley, mushrooms, etc at our online vegetable store.
To strengthen your immunity add apples and bananas in your daily diet, also include citrus fruits and berries, on the veggie side, it's imperative to consume green leafy vegetables at least twice a day, add in some onions, potatoes and carrots in it and you get a wholesome healthy meal. Fruits and vegetables are in for the long run, consume them daily and live a long and healthy life minus all the sickness and diseases.
